Vienna Eyecare Center offers a wide array of stylish eyeglasses made from durable, high-quality materials. With proper care and maintenance, your specs can last for many years, providing clear vision and an enhanced quality of life. To keep your glasses in top shape, follow these five steps when cleaning and storing them:
Step 1: Wash Your Hands Thoroughly
Your hands may contain dirt and germs that could be easily transferred to your lenses. Proper handwashing is an effective tool for preventing hand-eye transmission of disease-causing microorganisms. Avoid using oil-infused soaps as they may irritate your eyes.
Step 2: Rinse Your Eyeglasses
Turn on the faucet and let the lukewarm tap water gently run over your eyeglasses. The flow of water will help remove surface debris and deposits. Your reliable optometrist explains that this is one way to keep such particles from scratching your lenses.
Step 3: Use a Pea-Sized Amount of Dishwashing Solution
Gently rub your lenses, nose pads, and other parts of your specs with the solution. Make sure the liquid detergent doesn’t contain lotion, perfume, or other strong chemicals that could damage your lens material. Afterward, rinse the soap away completely.
Step 4: Use a Lint-Free Towel to Dry Your Glasses
Gently shake off excess water and then dry your glasses with a lint-free or microfiber towel. Refrain from using your shirt or other cloth, as the material may scrape your lenses.
Step 5: Check for Any Damage
Afterward, inspect your glasses for any residue, scratches, or signs of damage. We suggest cleaning your eyeglass case regularly as well. Let it air dry to prevent mildew formation or mold growth. For everyday touchups, use the microfiber cloth that your glasses came with.
Most importantly, visit your trusted eye doctor for regular eye exams so we can check if your prescription is still effective. We also offer professional cleaning of your specs.
