Invest in Sunglasses That Provide Complete UV Protection
The tint of the lenses doesn’t affect the protection provided by sunglasses. You need to make sure the manufacturer has certified that the sunglasses block100% of UV rays.
Make Them Wear a Wide-Brimmed Hat
Certified UV-blocking lenses are able to completely block UV light, but some rays may slip through the gaps along the side of the sunglasses. To provide additional protection for your child’s eyes, make sure they wear a hat with a brim at least three inches wide.
Make Sure They Wear Goggles While Swimming
Your local eye doctor recommends that all children wear goggles when swimming. This doesn’t only apply to pools but to other bodies of water. Water from pools and beaches may contain microorganisms that may irritate your child’s eyes or even cause an infection.
Keep Them Hydrated and Ensure They Get Plenty of Sleep
Dehydration can cause dry eye symptoms. Your child might also rub their eyes when they’re tired due to inadequate sleep, increasing the risk of an eye infection.
