Common LASIK Myths You Should Stop Believing

Refractive errors affect not only your visual health, but your overall well-being too. Your daily efficiency and quality of life may be reduced as well. Apart from eyeglasses and contact lenses, we may suggest LASIK as an effective solution to this problem. At Vienna Eyecare Center, we provide LASIK pre- and post-operative care. This includes helping you understand what this procedure is all about. To start, let us debunk some common LASIK myths.

LASIK Is a Painful Procedure

Contrary to popular beliefs, LASIK is actually a painless procedure. That said, we may still apply desensitizing agents at the start. You may feel slight pressure or vibrations as the cold beam excimer laser reshapes your corneal surface. You may feel some discomfort at the most. As the anesthesia wears off, you may experience a tingling sensation which goes away on its own after a few hours.

You’ll Have to Wait a Long Time for the Procedure to Finish

As a rule, the duration of the laser eye surgery mainly depends on the severity of your refractive error and the skills of your expert eye doctor. Rest assured our partner LASIK surgeons have the necessary experience, knowledge, and advanced equipment to finish the procedure in the shortest time possible. With our reliable postoperative care, you can also expect a relatively short recovery period.

Once You Undergo LASIK, You Won’t Have to Use Glasses Ever Again

LASIK was initially used to correct refractive errors, reducing your dependence on eyeglasses or contact lenses. It does not, however, totally eliminate the possibility you may have to use them in the future. Your eyes may change over time, requiring you to use prescription lenses for your improved visual acuity.

LASIK is an Effective Treatment for All Vision Errors

Part of our preoperative LASIK services is to determine if you’re a good candidate to undergo it since laser eye surgery may be incompatible with certain eye conditions. If you have active infections, inflammations, or discharges, your reliable optometrist may recommend other treatment methods.
